Resumen

In the first article of this series we described a routine procedure for fabrication and installation of one-piece cast post-and-cores ata single appointment. In this second article we consider post-and-core procedures applicable in more compli- cated clinical situations (i.e. suitable abutments are not present, as may occur for example in bruxisml. The phases of the procedure can be summarized as follows: 1) etiological evaluation of occlusal pathology, evaluation of existing abutments and sup- port tissues, and determination of optimal crown height(s); 2) interim occlusal restoration; 3) treatment (endodontic, periodontic, orthodontic, and/or other) of the existing abutments, and/or installation of osseointegrated fixtures; 4) fabrication and installation of the definitive metal or metal-ceramic restoration; and 5) maintenance (occlusal control and hygiene).
