Abstract
This article analyses the activity of psychiatric hospitalization between 1896-2001 in three different times in a peripheric territory in Spain: Ourense (Galicia). In 1896 at the Provincial General Hospital (Hospital de As Mercedes), in 1956 al the Mental State Hospital (monographic psychiatric asylum) and in 2001 at the new general hospital psychiatric hospitalization. This article provides unpublished documents that allows to know the clinical aspects and the assistance given to mental patients at the different hospitals along the time studied.
