Abstract

We performed a preliminary study with the aim to find alternative systems of administration of Ganciclovir for the treatment of cytomegalovirus retinitis. We performed an experimental study in rabbits and we evaluated the efficacy of ganciclovir liposome-encapsulated to get enough levels after topical application. The topical application of this liposome do not improve the Ganciclovir penetration in rabbit eye. The intravitreal application of Ganciclovir liposome is as effective as we may hope and it not show a valuable toxicity in retina.
