Resumo
Suicidal behavior is a leading cause of injury and death worldwide. For each committed suicide there are 10-20 suicide attempts, which is the most important risk marker for successful suicide. All suicide attempts that were attended to in the Accident and Emergency Service of Hospital Arquitecto Marcide (Ferrol, Spain) during the period from January to July of 2010 were studied and a follow-up was carried out for a year to see how certain variables behaved. The results were that suicide attempts are more frequent in: women, young people, people who have some psychiatric disorder, single, unemployed, with low level of studies, the main method was medicine intoxication, more men than women were admitted into hospital and in the first six months
