Abstract
A cavernous angioma is a benign vascular tumor and one of the commonest congenital disorders. Its incidence is high in the head and neck, and it is more frequent in women. Its prognosis is good, and surgical removal is recommended when tumors are large and there is risk for major hemorrhage. The most effective treatment is surgery, but other therapeutic possibilities exist, which are often combined with extirpation of the tumor. We present a case report of a 55-year-old male patient with a large tumor of the head and neck, located chiefly in the tongue. We analyse the various differential diagnoses, as well as the clinical, pathological and therapeutic aspects of this disorder.
