Resumo

La maternidade es un rol normalizado deseado por las personas con trastornos mentales graves. Posiblemente el número de personas con trastorno mental grave que tienen hijos se esté incrementando. A pesar de estos hechos, a esta realidad se le presta escasa atención en la clínica y en los programas de rehabilitación. El objetivo de la presente revisión es abordar la complejidad del tema incluyendo la legislación al respecto, los datos epidemiológicos, la óptica de madres e hijos y las implicaciones para la organización de los servicios.
