Abstract

This paper intends to review the grief in spontaneous abortion, perinatal and neonatal death. From a biological level during pregnancy and puerperium important changes happen in the physiological level. They appear together with other factors like psychosocial and environmental factors and they can alter the mother’s mental stability. From a social level we find the unauthorized grief concept. Opposing these kind of social organization, we point to examples: Chile and Japan. In the psychological level the fathers in this situation describe different kind of losses. In spite the short lifetime the fathers’ affective link has appeared. We can usually find these emotional reactions: loneliness feelings, sadness, guilt, shame, anger, jealousy, fear. These events can affect the sentimental relationship, the relation with the other child, the grandfathers or with health-care professionals. Finally we point some recommendations on the assistance.
