Resumo
All of them are the most frequent pathologies for general surgeons. Usually the intervention is scheduled as ambulatory major surgery; nevertheless, it is not uncommon the presentation of hernias in emergency department as a severe pathology with a recognized mortality rate. Being its diagnosis clinical and exploratory, the knowledge of its forms of presentation is required. Surgical techniques have evolved and nowadays are less aggressive and more efficient; the use of meshes is becoming more widespread. Moreover, prosthesis placement and mesh composition have also been improved, so more efficient techniques are performed with more resistant and biocompatible meshes.
