Abstract

Objective: To analyze the degree of knowledge about menopause of women living with HIV attending a training program on this stage of life, as well as the knowledge acquired at the end of the program. Material and methods: Observational descriptive crosssectional study where we value the data obtained in a knowledge questionnaire about menopause. The questionnaire was covered by HIV-positive women who participated in a training program about menopause carried out in the health area of Vigo, one questionnaire at the beginning and other at the end of the program. Results: There were 27 participants, with an average age of 50 years. The vast majority (96%) had studies and their main source of information about menopause was "friends and family" (33%). We observed improvement in the level of knowledge after the program: improvement in scores obtained, decrease in women with insufficient knowledge (22% before vs. 4% after) and significant decrease in the number of unanswered questions (48% before vs. 4% after). Conclusion: Health training programs, about menopause in our case, allow the acquisition of a greater degree of knowledge on the subject. Women must have knowledge about menopause to be able to live this stage in a natural and healthy way.
