Abstract

The high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), a technique to support oxygenation and ventilation, which has recently emerged and has entered clinical practice in hospitalization services. High-flow oxygen therapy (HFOT) through a nasal cannula is used in patients with mild or moderate oxygenation or weaning problems, with a high need for air humidification, where work of breathing is decreased and well-being is increased. The system avoids the possible adverse effects of oxygen on the mucosa nasopharyngeal by humidification of the inspired air, providing a better quality of life to the patient1. It is becoming more and more common to receive patients on the ward wearing HFNC, due to the current pandemic and other criteria that do not allow the admission of these patients, in specialized units, where this type of device is more used2. Many nurses have doubts and fears about nursing care and team management. Through this article, we seek to clear up the main doubts about the management and nursing care with the patient with HFNC.
