Abstract

Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disorder. It is a complex disease whose etiopathogenic mechanisms lead to a structural alteration or a loss of bone mass caused by changes in bone remodeling, which increases the fragility of the bone, and with it, an increased risk of fractures. Osteoporosis can appear at any age, although it can behave silently and later manifest itself in a repetitive fall or falls that lead to a bone fracture; For this reason, it is very typical that it manifests itself in many cases in somewhat advanced ages (70 years and older) or middle age (50-60 years). The management of osteoporosis includes non-pharmacological and pharmacological measures. Some of the non-pharmacological ones are the ingestion of calcium in the diet; and the pharmacological ones can be oral calcium and vitamin D supplementation, and analgesia for bone and joint pain generated by the disease.
