Resumo

The objective of this work is to compare theophylline clearance among groups of adult patients classified by sex, age, smoking habit, presence of congestive heart failure, presence of cor pulmonale, normoweight or overweight, use or no use of corticosteroids and use or no use of associated beta-2 agonists. In order to calculate the clearances for purposes of comparison, there were gathered in a retrospective manner age, weight, size, dosage, minimum concentration of total theophylline in stationary state, diagnosis, smoking habit, presence of congestive heart failure, presence of cor pulmonale and use of either corticosteroids or associated beta-2 agonists, from monitored patients under treatment with delayed theophylline formulas. There have been found statistically significant differences in the smoking habit clearance and the congestive heart failure clearance. And, there have not been found such differences for the following clearances: sex, over 65 years of age, overweight, use of corticosteroids and use of associated beta-2 agonists
