Resumo
Pain is a Symptom frequently associated with cancer. However the subjective nature of both its presentation and its evolution make it extremely hard to evaluate. lt is not the tumour as such that produces pam but rather the invasion and compression of the surrounding healthy tissue. Two thirds of cancer patients in which the tumour has spread experience pain and require pain-relieving treatment. The causes most commonly related to the onset of pain and the different therapies designed to prevent or treat the pain are discussed.
