Resumen

The Polycystic Kidney Disease involves a group of diseases, which are characterized by the presence of cyst in nephrons from both kidneys, leading to kidney failure to the majority of people affected. The Polycystic Kidney Disease is a global public health problem, being one of the most common hereditary syndromes. Despite its importance, there is a lack of early diagnosis and effective therapy, apart from renal replacement therapy. Due to this, the principal objectives of this project are focused on the research the molecular mechanism that is involved in the development of the Polycystic Kidney Disease with the aim of elucidating the key mechanism for cystogenesis that will allow us to find a new effective therapeutic target for the treatment of polycystic kidney disease; and the development of new diagnostic tools that complement with the genetic diagnosis our group do and also allow us to anticipate the evolution of the disease.
