Resumo

Introduction: this work aims to understand the biological bases of central fatigue of the motor system induced by unresisted repetitive movements and the potential of brain stimulation techniques to prevent fatigue. Methods: three studies are presented in which the finger tapping test is used as a model to evaluate fatigue produced by unresisted repetitive movements combined with the use of different non-invasive brain stimulation techniques. Conclusions: the data obtained suggest that fatigue produced by unresisted repetitive movements has independent central and peripheral origins. Muscle force is not a limiting factor in this form of fatigue, and the central origin of fatigue for these movements appears to originate in supraspinal structures other than M1.
