Resumo

The family doctor has a protagonistic role in making an early diagnosis of chronic kidney disease (CKD). This disease is one that is underdiagnosed in the medical visits and its progression is related with greater morbimortality associated to kidney damage, since patients with CKD has an increased cardiovascular risk. Among the functions of the Family doctors are screening all the patients with greater risk of suffering the disease and treating all the associated risk factors integrally, with modifications in their life styles and with drugs that have demonstrated cardiovascular and renal benefit, as are the sodium-glucose cotransporter type 2 inhibitors.
