Abstract

On this paper we are going to discuss two different intervention models focused on the child and adolescent population. Both models have been shown effective and can be complementary although the approach differs completely from one to another. We will relate our personal experience as health care professionals working with children and adolescents in different mental health units. The aim of this paper is to narrate in first person the hopes and the struggles of two people initiating two projects. The beginning of a Day care hospital for children and adolescents and the implementation of the YAM program (Youth Aware of Mental Health). Two different perspectives on how to help young people. Participating in both projects at the same time have led to some reflections on our own way of working with children and adolescents trying to apply the positive aspects of both approaches in our day to day work. We will discuss first the development of what for us would be the “Perfect day care hospital” for later on develop on more deep how was the YAM training to become instructors.
