Abstract

We present the case of a 68-year-old man who consulted for subocclusion, with recurrent subocclusive crises in the last year. After a torpid evolution, without specific findings in the imaging tests that justify the condition, an exploratory laparoscopy was decided. During surgery, a whitish fibrous shell was observed enveloping the entire intestinal package, suggestive of encapsulating sclerosing peritonitis (ESP), so total resection of the shell was performed. PEE is a rare cause of recurrent intestinal obstruction, the diagnosis of which is usually intraoperative, since it requires high preoperative suspicion. The objective of presenting this case is to show a possible differential diagnosis of intestinal obstruction that may go unnoticed, where the anamnesis plays an important role
