Resumo

Objective: To check the prevalence of patients being treated with dicoumarin anticoagulants in therapeutic range, and describe the profile of this patients in Health Area of Ourense. Design: A retrospective study was carried out. Methods: 290 patient records in anticoagulation, with 4,646 International Normalized Ratio (INR) determinations in 2013 were analyzed. Time in therapeutic range was calculated. Association between number of determinations in range and related variables was assessed by linear regression. Results: Mean age was 77.8 (SD 11.3) years, 52.4% were women. Main indication for anticoagulation was atrial fibrillation (80.3%). Time in therapeutic range of all determinations was 56.3%, 20.6% above and 23.1% below range. Inverse association existed between thromboembolic risk and percentage of determinations within the therapeutic range (p=0.03). Conclusions: Prevalence of anticoagulation patients in therapeutic range is less than the existing recommendations. Thromboembolic risk is inversely associated with the percentage of determinations within therapeutic range.
